イオンは16日、新たに展開する大型生活雑貨店「R.O.U」の報道陣向け内覧会を開催した。顧問兼アドバイザーに、雑貨?ホビー専門店「LOFT」の元代表取締役社長?安森健氏を迎え入れた同店は、デザイン性を重視。17日にイオン津田沼SC（千葉県津田沼市）、24日にイオンレイクタウン（埼玉県越谷市）KAZAゾーン内にオープンし、今後は「首都圏を中心に年間5?7
店舗出店する予定」（同社）と述べている。店名の「R.O.U」は、「Rock Our Utopia（思い切り毎日を楽しもう）」の略語。

店舗規模は約2000坪で、この日報道陣に公開された津田沼店では約6万点の商品を陳列。化粧品、文具、家庭用品、バラエティ雑貨など、同世代の心をくすぐるようなデザイン、カラー アラド rmt wm
を集めた。また、子ども向けの雑貨や親子で休めるレストスペース、ネイルサロンなども用意し、メインターゲット層の30代女性に向けて訴求する。
また、“新たな試み”として、販売スタッフが商品の仕入れも担当する「仕入れ販売員」制度を導入。消費者と直接触れ合うスタッフだからこそ、嗜好やニーズを読み取りやすく、それに見合った商品を提供しや
すくなるという。
同社が実施した来店客調査では「住宅余暇の商品に対して種類やデザイン性を求める声が多かった」といい、今回の大型生活雑貨店の展開を決めた。価格の安さやプライベートブランド商品で競い合ってきた近年の総合スーパー業界だが、イオンの試みは新たな風を巻き起こすことになりそうだ。
